Welcome!
A Little Bit Better Than How I Found It is the professional blog of me (Kye Leslie).
I started this blog in order to share some of the lessons I have learned in my 10+ years working in the IT industry. As I have learned more and gradually understood more about myself and what I enjoy doing I have refined my understanding of what I can offer the world, which is both why I get up each day to go to work and also the reason behind the title of this blog. If I can say that I left the world a little better than how I found it then that’s good enough for me.
On my journey I have worked in Government/Education, Web Design, E-commerce/Insurance, IT outsourcing and Financial Services sectors and run projects in the Arts. I have been a worker, manager, mentor, consultant, coach, owner and producer. I have hired, fired, and promoted people, both in paid and volunteer positions; restructured teams; created, modified and retired processes and practices; created, modified and retired software tools; and worked with policy in a federally regulated environment. I have worked in organisations from 3 to 5000 people.
I have a Bachelor of Computer Science and a postgraduate business qualification in addition to completing a number of professional training courses.
I have seen many challenges and often made a lot of mistakes before finding the right solution as well as watched how other people tackle the challenges they faced and I have learned a great deal on the way.
Through my diverse background I have seen the common challenges and the common mistakes that people make when trying to tackle these challenges. The ‘differences’ across different jobs truly are superficial – in the end the greatest challenges are about how we interact as people.
I will do my best to share some of the things I have learned and I hope you will benefit.
Kye.
